On 29 January 2020 ACT attended the FLIP roundtables co-organised by DGEAC in Brussels. Discussions will help DG EAC to make recommendations for the EC agenda on culture.
On 16 January 2020 ACT attended the Conference "Data Protection Day 2020: Facing New Challenges", organised by the Croatian Presidency in Zagreb.
On 3 December ACT jointly with AER, EBU and News Media Europe and under the patronage of the EC, organised an all-day event bringing together key institutional players and stakeholders to explore three major policy themes: fostering and preserving quality journalism; conditions for media to thrive and fair compettion in digital markets.
On 25-26 November ACT attended the High-Level Conference on Data Economy organised by the Finnish Presidency in Helsinki.
On 18 November ACT celebrated its 30 years and launched Blueprint for EU Media policy 2019-2024. This Blueprint sets out our guiding thoughts for what European policy-makers need to focus on if they wish to maintain media plurality, quality news and cultural diversity in Europe. The Blueprint was launched officially on 18 November in Brussels as commercial TV CEOs from across Europe converge on Brussels to deliver a united message. The call for action focuses on Robust, Responsible and Reliable policies that support the great contribution broadcasters make to life in Europe.
On 5 November ACT spoke at the 2nd Copyright Stakeholder Dialogue organised by the Commission in Brussels.
On 23-25 October ACT took part in the 39th session of the WIPO Standing Committee on Copyright and Related Rights in Geneva.
On 16 October ACT spoke at the Conference "The Future of Broadcasting", organised in Madrid by UNI MEI Global Union.

On 25-26 September ACT spoke at the EU Intellectual Property Observatory (EUIPO) Plenary Meeting in Alicante.
On 17 September ACT attended a dinner with MEPs organised by the Creative and Media Business Alliance (CMBA) in Strasbourg.
On 5 April an ACT delegation went to Helsinki to meet the Finnish Presidency team in order to discuss the upcoming Council Presidency priorities in the audiovisual field.
The meeting, jointly organised by ACT and the Bulgarian commercial televisions’ association ABBRO, was an opportunity to explain broadcasters' perspective on current EU legislation touching the TV industry at both national and European level. Topics discussed were the upcoming decisions on the EU copyright directive as well as on the reviewed Satellite and Cable Directive.
The event was an opportunity to share commercial broadcasters’ assessment of recent EU negotiations outcomes touching upon issues affecting the TV industry at both national and European level such as such as the agreement on EU copyright.
On 27 February, ACT invited members of the Contact Committee (Ministry experts and AV attachés) for a walking dinner. This was an occasion for ACT to brief members of the Contact Committee on ACT’s position regarding AVMS guidelines – click here to access positions on essential functionality and approach to calculation of low audience/turnover - and give a platform to meet with representatives of leading broadcasters.

In order to celebrate the upcoming launch of portability, Commercial Broadcasters with the support of MEP Jean-Marie Cavada and VP Andrus Ansip celebrated the launch in the European Parliament on 19 March followed by a group photo with VP Ansip and all policy-makers that helped make this a success.
On 12 March 2018, ACT together with other national associations representing commercial broadcasters and radios as well as sales houses organise a seminar on e-Privacy.
On 10 January 2017, the Commission proposed a Regulation on Privacy and Electronic Communications which if adopted will replace the current e-Privacy Directive. Together with GDPR will establish a new privacy legal framework for electronic communications. Therefore the seminar tried to further explain functionalities and purpose of cookies, distinction between a 1st and a 3rd party cookie, overall implications for advertisers and users and what effects could privacy by default approach have on commercial broadcasters.

On 21 September 2018, ACT organised a walking lunch for representatives of the Council IPR Working Party. Focus was on broadcasters' perspective to the ongoing revision of the copyright files.
In the public hearing organised by JURI Committe in the European Parliament, ACT presented three misleading claims of the SatCab Proposal:
1. The proposal only facilitates cross border access, but doesn’t mandate it
2. Contractual freedom is safeguarded. Pay-TV case only applies to parties in the case
3. More cross-border access will lead to less piracy
Commercial broadcasters organised a reception in the European Parliament to focus on advertising as part of the ongoing EU revision of the Audiovisual Media Services Directive. As the Directive has its roots in 1989, commercial broadcasters took this opportunity to ask the Parliament to ensure the proposed revision be future proof and ensure fair competition.
600,000 people in Europe help create the TV programmes that reach 610 million viewers across the continent. Viewers, who watch for an average of 3.55 hours every day, enjoy 60,000 hours of entertainment daily on Europe’s 5,463 TV channels. Happy World TV Day 2016.
On 9 December 2015, the Commission proposed as part of the Digital Single Market Strategy a regulation on content portability of online services. Europe’s commercial broadcasters are at the heart of the issue and are proactively taking part in the public discussion to ensure the right dispositions are put in place to make portability work. As part of this discussion, the ACT organised a policy breakfast in the European Parliament which took a practical approach to the portability discussion.
TV continues to dominate millennials’ media lives. Despite the popularity and hype around video services such as YouTube and Netflix, the latest data gathered from around the world show how popular TV remains with younger generations. To mark World Television Day on Saturday 21 November, TV organisations from around the world have brought together the latest statistics to reveal how millennials’ relationship with TV looks today.
In order to understand the importance of TV content, the dynamism and negotiation process around trying to get the best distribution deals, one needs to be present at the largest TV and digital content market in the world, Miptv in Cannes. For those who could not make it to South of France along with 13,600 participants from over 100 countries last month, commercial broadcasters are organisinged a de-brief seminar in the heart of Brussels.
ACT organised an informative seminar in Brussels focussing on their cross-platform and on-demand media strategies. These demonstrated how crucial these innovative services are as a new means of offering high quality TV content in response to evolving consumer demand.

On this occasion we honour a medium that holds a central place in the lives of millions of people and we highlight the many services TV offers in the era of multi-screening.

Behind the Screens is a European content season organised by the Association of Commercial Television in Europe together with our member companies. The aim of the season is to move beyond regulatory and policy issues and instead explore the role of television content in the lives of European citizens – whether news, sport or entertainment.
